What debt review actually does
It is a legal process under the National Credit Act. A registered counsellor renegotiates what you pay each month, and a court makes the new amounts binding on your creditors.
One affordable payment a month
Instead of juggling several debit orders on different dates, you pay one amount into one account.
Lower monthly repayments
Your counsellor negotiates reduced instalments and interest with each creditor, and the new amounts are set by a court order.
Legal protection from creditors
Once you are under debt review, creditors deal with your counsellor. The calls and the letters stop coming to you.
Guided by registered counsellors
Every one of our counsellors is registered with the National Credit Regulator, and the numbers are on this page to check.
What happens when you click
Four steps, and you are in control at every one of them.
- 1
Answer a few questions
Your income, what you owe and roughly what you pay each month. About two minutes, no documents.
- 2
See your result immediately
You get a personalised picture on screen straight away — before you speak to anybody.
- 3
Talk it through, if you want to
A registered counsellor goes through the result with you and answers whatever the screen did not.
- 4
Only then do you decide
Nothing is filed, and nothing changes with your creditors, until you say so in writing.
Who you are dealing with
Debt review may only be carried out by a debt counsellor registered with the National Credit Regulator under Section 44 of the National Credit Act. Debt Solutions 4U works through 3 registered counsellors, with 45+ years of combined experience. Every registration below can be checked on the regulator’s own register, and every certificate is published in full.
- Registered with the National Credit Regulator — NCRDC2423
- Full member of the Debt Counsellors Association of South Africa
- Member of the National Debt Counsellors Association

Certificates issued 1 August 2026, valid to 31 July 2027. Check any of them on the NCR register — the regulator’s own page, not ours. Anyone offering debt review without an NCRDC number is not entitled to.
Debt Free with Armani is our partner practice. Applications may be handled by either practice, and you are told which before anything is signed.
What it costs
The assessment is free. Debt review fees are set by the National Credit Regulator and are identical at every registered debt counsellor in South Africa — nobody is cheaper, so there is nothing to shop around for. Everything below comes out of your single monthly payment rather than on top of it, and nothing is payable upfront in cash.
| Fee | Amount | When and what for |
|---|---|---|
| Application fee | R50, once off | Charged when you formally apply. Included in your first payment. |
| Restructuring fee | Equal to your 1st instalment | Capped at R8,000 single, or R9,000 for a joint estate. Deducted from the first payment. |
| After-care fee | 5% of your monthly instalment | Capped at R450 a month, for as long as your counsellor manages the plan. |
| Payment distribution | R27.50 per account, per month | Paid to the registered payment distribution agency that pays your creditors. |
Court and legal costs, where they apply, are capped at the same R8,000 single / R9,000 joint figure and are spread over your payments. Your counsellor shows you your own exact figures before you sign anything.
Before you start
Will somebody phone me the moment I submit?
You get your result on screen first, without speaking to anyone. If you leave a number, a registered counsellor will call — usually quickly, because that is when we can actually help. You are never obliged to take the call.
Am I committing to anything by doing the assessment?
No. The assessment is free and nothing is filed on your behalf. Debt review only begins when you sign an application, and that is a separate, deliberate step you take later.
Will this hurt my credit record?
The assessment itself does not affect your credit record. Going under debt review is recorded at the credit bureaux while it is active, and it is removed once you receive a clearance certificate. We will explain exactly how that works before you sign anything.
How do I check if a debt counsellor is registered with the NCR?
Search the NCR's public register of registered debt counsellors at ncr.org.za. Every registered counsellor has an NCRDC number, and it is the number, not a logo on a website, that you check. Ours are NCRDC2423, NCRDC1887 and NCRDC1015, and all three certificates are linked above.
Do I qualify for debt review?
You qualify if you are over-indebted as Section 79 of the National Credit Act defines it — that is, you cannot meet all of your monthly credit obligations on time out of your income. The assessment works that out with you in about two minutes. You do need an income for debt review to be possible; if something else suits your position better, a counsellor will say so.
What does it cost?
The assessment is free. Debt review fees are set by the National Credit Regulator and are identical at every registered debt counsellor — nobody is cheaper, so there is nothing to shop around for. A R50 once-off application fee; a restructuring fee equal to your first restructured instalment, capped at R8,000 single or R9,000 joint estate; an after-care fee of 5% of your monthly instalment, capped at R450 a month; and a R27.50 per account per month payment-distribution fee. All of it comes out of the single monthly payment rather than on top of it, and nothing is payable upfront in cash. Your counsellor shows you your own exact figures before you sign anything.
