WHAT IS DEBT REVIEW?
Debt review is a legal process introduced by the National Credit Act (NCA) to help over-indebted South Africans. A registered debt counsellor assesses your finances, negotiates with creditors to reduce interest rates and monthly payments, and creates a single, affordable repayment plan.

HOW LONG DOES DEBT REVIEW TAKE?
The duration depends on the amount of debt and your repayment capacity. Most clients complete the process within 3 to 5 years. During this time, your interest rates are reduced and your assets are protected from repossession.

WILL DEBT REVIEW AFFECT MY CREDIT RECORD?
While under debt review, a flag is placed on your credit profile to protect you from further credit and creditor action. Once you complete the process and receive your clearance certificate, the flag is removed and your credit record is updated.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
You must have a regular source of income (employment, self-employment, or other income) and be unable to meet your monthly debt obligations. A registered debt counsellor will assess your finances to determine if you are over-indebted as defined by the NCA.
