Is your debt counsellor registered with the NCR?

Search all 1,713 registered debt counsellors by firm name, person or NCRDC number. The NCR's own search can't look up a firm's name. This one can.

Our copy of the NCR register as at 26 October 2026, refreshed monthly. Registrations change: confirm on the NCR's own register before you rely on a result. Websites come from the email address each counsellor gave the NCR. We show one only where the address looks like the firm's own and a website answers on it, so many entries have none. The search runs in your browser and nothing you type is stored.

The rule

Every debt counsellor in South Africa must be registered with the National Credit Regulator under section 44 of the National Credit Act, and each registration has its own NCRDC number. Before you sign anything, check that the number, the person and the firm match the register, and that the status reads “registered”.

The NCR's register can be searched by a person's name or an NCRDC number, but not by the name of the firm. This checker searches all three, across the registered, lapsed, voluntarily cancelled and Tribunal-cancelled lists.

The number a caller gave you

If a caller says “we are NCRDC…”, search the number and then the firm's name. If the number is listed to a different person or firm, ask them why before you share your ID, payslips or bank statements.

Before you sign with anyone

  1. 1

    The number matches

The NCRDC number, the person's name and the firm all match one entry on the register, and its status is “registered”.

  2. 2

    The fees are in writing

You get every fee in writing before you sign, and none is above the NCR guideline in the table below.

  3. 3

Payments go to a registered PDA

Your monthly debt review payment goes to a registered payment distribution agent, which pays your creditors. The NCR lists three: Hyphen (NCRPDA1), DC Partner (NCRPDA2) and Intuitive PDA (NCRPDA3).

  4. 4

    Nobody promises a result unseen

Be wary of any firm that promises a fixed instalment, or that a creditor will not act, before it has seen your credit report and your agreements.

Questions about checking a debt counsellor

How do I check if a debt counsellor is registered with the NCR?

Ask for their NCRDC number, then search it here or on the NCR's own register. The number, the person's name and the firm should all match one entry, and its status should read registered. Search the firm's name too: a number given to you over the phone can belong to someone else.

Why can't I find a company on the NCR website?

The NCR's register searches by a person's name or NCRDC number, not by the firm's trading name. This checker also searches trading names. If a firm still does not appear, try the counsellor's own name: registrations are held by people, and a firm may trade under a different name from the one on the register.

What does a lapsed or cancelled registration mean?

The register shows the registration is not current. Lapsed and voluntarily cancelled registrations are recorded by the NCR; a Tribunal cancellation is ordered by the National Consumer Tribunal. In each case, ask the counsellor for their current NCRDC number and check that one.

How up to date is this checker?

It is our copy of the NCR's public register, refreshed at the start of every month, and each result shows the date of the copy. Registrations change, so confirm on the NCR's own register before you rely on a result.

Can I change debt counsellors if I am already under debt review?

Yes. You may move to another NCR-registered debt counsellor at any stage, without your current counsellor's permission (NCR guideline 004/2026). The new counsellor requests your file, and your court order and your payments through the PDA carry on.

Is Debt Solutions 4U on the register?

Yes. Search NCRDC2423: it is Rowan Breeds, trading as Debt Solutions 4 U. Our partner practice is NCRDC1015, Tania Dekker, trading as Debt Free with Armani. Check us exactly the way you would check anyone else.

Debt Solutions 4U is a registered debt counsellor, not the regulator. This is our copy of a public register, shown so you can check any firm, including us. Is your entry wrong here, or would you like your website link removed? Email [email protected] with your NCRDC number and we will correct our copy. Changes to the register itself go to the NCR. General information, not legal advice. Last verified: 26 October 2026.
