If you are choosing a debt counsellor, you have probably noticed that every website calls itself award-winning. Most never say which award, which year, or where you can check. This page exists to do the opposite. Debt Solutions 4U has been named in South Africa's Debt Review Awards in each of the last three cycles, and below is the full record: the category, the placing, the exact name the awards used for us that year, and a link to the awards site so you can confirm every line without taking our word for it.

The record at a glance

"Debt Solutions 4 U" and "Debt Solutions 4U" are the same practice: Debt Solutions 4U, NCR registration NCRDC2423, debtsolutions4u.co.za. The awards site has spelled the name both ways over the years.

What the Debt Review Awards Actually Are

The Debt Review Awards are an awards programme built specifically for South Africa's debt counselling and debt review industry. They form part of the International Debt Management Awards, and they are not a public vote or a paid listing. The rating is a peer review. Debt counsellors, payment distribution agencies (PDAs) and credit providers all get rated, but the people doing the rating are separated from the people being rated: the organisers state that no PDA staff member and no credit provider staff member takes part in rating debt counsellors, and the whole process is audited by Moore SA Auditors.

That matters because the industry is small and everybody deals with everybody. The banks, the PDAs that distribute your restructured payment, the attorneys who take debt review matters to court and the counsellors themselves all see each other's work every week. A practice that files sloppy applications, drops clients mid-process or fights the wrong battles gets noticed quickly. So does a practice that does the opposite.

Practices are not all judged against each other. They are grouped by size, because a one-counsellor boutique and a national call centre are different businesses. The bands, as published by the awards:

CategoryClients under managementDS4U listed
BoutiqueUnder 100
Small100 to 300
Medium300 to 1,0002023 (Top 5 finalist)
LargeMore than 1,0002024 and 2025 (Top 10)
NationalAround 4,000 or more
National+Around 10,000 or more

Each year the awards publish a Top 10 per category before the gala, then announce the highest-rated practice in each category live. The 2025 finalists were published on 6 October 2025 and the results announced from the gala in Ballito on 24 October 2025.

DS4U's Three Listings, Year by Year

YearCategoryDS4U placingHighest rated that year
2023Medium (300 to 1,000 clients)Top 5 finalistDebt Fresh (Anton Meiring)
2024Large (more than 1,000 clients)Top 10Category top five: DebtSafe, Consumer Credit Care, Debt Care, EZ Debt, Randwise DMG
2025Large (more than 1,000 clients)Top 10DebtSafe

Two things in that table are worth reading twice. The first is the move from Medium to Large between the 2023 and 2024 cycles. The Medium band tops out at 1,000 clients under management; Large starts above it. DS4U crossed that line and stayed on the finalist list on the other side of it, which is harder than it sounds, because the Large category is where practices like DebtSafe, DCGsa and EZ Debt live. Growth that costs you your service quality shows up in peer ratings fast. Ours did not.

The second is who else is on those lists. Debt Free with Armani, the practice we partnered with in 2026, appears in the 2024 Large Top 10 and, as Armani Debt Counsellors under Tania Dekker, in the 2025 Medium Top 10. VDL Attorneys, the credit-law firm on our legal panel, is on the 2025 shortlist for attorneys acting for debt counsellors. We did not choose our partners off the awards lists, but it is not a coincidence that the people we work with are the people the industry rates.

What Changed Between the Medium and Large Listings

Peers do not rate a practice on its marketing. They rate it on the files that cross their desks: how complete the Form 16 application is, whether the proposal to creditors is realistic, whether the counsellor answers when a PDA or an attorney has a query, and whether clients actually reach their Form 19 clearance certificate. Between the 2023 and 2025 cycles, four things changed in how we run those files.

  • The whole process moved to DS Chat. Assessment, document collection and the application itself now run in one chat conversation, with most enquiries answered inside 2 to 4 business hours. Fewer emails lost, fewer applications stalled waiting for a payslip.
  • Every enquiry is checked against the NCR register first. Our free debt review status check confirms whether a person is already under review before anyone proposes anything. In our own data, roughly four in ten people who ran that check were already listed and did not know it. A practice that files duplicate applications is a practice its peers stop trusting.
  • Afrikaans became a full service, not a translated brochure. Fifteen Afrikaans pages now cover the process, costs and clearance in the client's own language.
  • Specialists were brought in for the parts a counsellor should not improvise. Court applications, rescissions and removal disputes go to VDL Attorneys; Debt Free with Armani adds a second NCR-registered practice to the team.

None of that guarantees a rating. It is simply the work the rating measures.

What We Did Not Win, and Why We Are Telling You

DS4U has not been the highest-rated practice in its category in any of the three years. In 2023 that was Debt Fresh. In 2025 it was DebtSafe, a practice with a far larger footprint than ours. We are saying this plainly because the alternative, a vague "award-winning" on the homepage, is exactly the kind of claim we tell our own clients to distrust. Three consecutive finalist listings across two size bands is the honest claim. It says the industry that deals with us every day rates us in the top ten of our peers, year after year, and that is the claim we can back with a link.

A warning about award badges in this industry

Debt review removal scammers and unregistered "consultants" regularly paste award graphics onto their websites and WhatsApp profiles. The Debt Review Awards list registered debt counselling practices, and every listing is public. If you cannot find a company on the awards site for the year it claims, or on the NCR register at all, it is not a debt counsellor, whatever the badge says. Our guide to spotting a debt review scam covers the other red flags.

How to Use Awards When You Choose a Debt Counsellor

An industry award is one signal, not a decision. Here is the order we would check things in if we were choosing a counsellor for a family member.

  1. NCR registration, before anything else. Every legitimate counsellor has an NCRDC number on the National Credit Regulator's public register. Ours is NCRDC2423. Our NCR debt review page explains what registration obliges a counsellor to do for you under the National Credit Act.
  2. Then the award, with the year and category attached. A Top 10 Large listing in 2025 is a specific, checkable fact. "Award-winning" on its own is not.
  3. Then reviews at scale. Public review counts are hard to fake. DS4U has 477+ Google reviews at a 4.9 average and 348 five-star Hellopeter reviews, all indexed and reply-traceable. The full trust record is on one page.
  4. Then fee transparency. Debt counselling fees are capped by the NCR: a R50 application fee, a restructuring fee equal to your first restructured instalment (capped at R9,000), and a monthly aftercare fee of about 5% (capped at R450 including VAT). A counsellor who will not put those numbers in writing has a reason.
  5. Then the first conversation. How fast do they answer, and do they ever say no? Under the NCA a counsellor must assess whether you are over-indebted before recommending debt review. If every caller is told they qualify, the assessment is not real.

If you want the same checks applied to the other big names, our comparison of the top debt review companies in South Africa does that, including the parts where competitors beat us.

Verify Every Claim on This Page

Recognition is nice. It is not why most people land on this site. If you are here because the debt has become unmanageable, the useful next step is the same one every one of those peer ratings is ultimately about: a straight assessment of your numbers. You can run them yourself first with our debt review calculator, or start a free 60-second assessment with Debt Solutions 4U and get an honest answer, including "not yet" if that is the right one.

Why DS4U: NCR-registered (NCRDC2423), DCASA-accredited, Debt Review Awards top-ten finalist 2023, 2024 and 2025, 477+ Google reviews at 4.9 stars, and the only major SA debt counsellor running the entire process on DS Chat. See why South Africans choose us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Has Debt Solutions 4U won the Debt Review Awards?

Debt Solutions 4U has been named in the Debt Review Awards three years in a row: a Top 5 finalist in the Medium practice category in 2023 (listed as 'Debt Solutions 4 U'), and a Top 10 Large practice in both 2024 and 2025. DS4U has not been the overall category winner in any of those years. In 2023 the Medium category went to Debt Fresh, and in 2025 DebtSafe was rated highest in the Large category. All three listings are published on debtreviewawards.co.za and can be verified directly.

What are the Debt Review Awards and who judges them?

The Debt Review Awards are an annual industry awards programme specific to South Africa's debt counselling and debt review sector, and form part of the International Debt Management Awards. Ratings come from a peer review in which industry participants rate one another through online software. No payment distribution agency (PDA) staff and no credit provider staff take part in rating debt counsellors, and the process is audited by Moore SA Auditors. Top 10 lists per category are published ahead of the gala, and the highest-rated practices are announced live, most recently in Ballito on 24 October 2025.

What does the 'Large' category mean in the Debt Review Awards?

Debt counselling practices are grouped by the number of clients under management: Boutique (under 100 clients), Small (100 to 300), Medium (300 to 1,000), Large (more than 1,000), National (around 4,000 or more) and National+ (around 10,000 or more). DS4U was a Medium-category finalist in 2023 and has been listed in the Large category since 2024, which means the practice grew past 1,000 clients under management between those two award cycles. The size band reflects scale; the rating within the band reflects how peers assess the practice.

How can I verify a debt counsellor's award claims?

Go to the source, not the badge. The Debt Review Awards publish their finalist and winner lists per year at debtreviewawards.co.za, so search the year's page for the practice name and check the category and whether it was a finalist or the winner. Then confirm the practice is on the NCR's public register of debt counsellors with a live NCRDC number. If a counsellor's site says 'award-winning' but you cannot find the practice on the awards site or the NCR register, treat the claim as unverified and ask them for the year, category and a link.

Does an industry award mean a debt counsellor is right for me?

No. An award tells you the practice is respected by the people who deal with it every day, which is useful, but it says nothing about your specific debt, income or circumstances. Confirm NCR registration first, then judge the counsellor on how quickly and honestly they assess you. Under the National Credit Act every registered counsellor must assess your affordability before recommending debt review, and at DS4U that assessment is free, takes about 60 seconds on DS Chat, and ends with a straight answer, including 'debt review is not your best option' when that is the truth.
